Big ideas are taking shape for Downtown Wahoo

The City of Wahoo is developing a Downtown Revitalization Plan, a community-driven roadmap that will guide future improvements and investments. This plan will help strengthen downtown as the community's economic and social heart.

The City of Wahoo was awarded a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) grant through the Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) for the development of this plan. Planning for this project began in June 2026, with the final plan anticipated in May 2027.

What is a Downtown Revitalization Plan?

This plan will:

Assess existing downtown conditions

Identify strengths and opportunities

Gather community input

Establish goals and priorities

Recommend projects and improvements

Create an implementation strategy and funding roadmap

Get Involved

The vision for future Downtown Wahoo will be guided by input from community members, business owners, property owners, and community partners.

Community Survey – Open through September 30, 2026

Community members are currently invited to complete an online survey at tinyurl.com/WahooDTRsurvey. The survey will be open through September 30, 2026.

Downtown Wahoo

Downtown Wahoo is an important community asset, and portions of the district face challenges related to aging buildings, underutilized properties, and changing market conditions. Existing conditions documented in the 2024 Downtown Blight and Substandard Study identified opportunities to strengthen the district through building reinvestment, business development, public space improvements, and infrastructure enhancements.

The plan will be used as a guide for the city to develop and improve the downtown area, as well as pursue additional funding to support plan implementation.

Potential opportunities that may emerge through the planning process include:

  • Building façade improvements

  • Streetscape enhancements

  • Public gathering spaces

  • Wayfinding and signage

  • Business development initiatives

  • Downtown housing opportunities

  • Event and programming enhancements

  • Infrastructure and accessibility improvements

  • Beautification and landscaping projects
