Building Wahoo’s Future: A Bold Investment in Our Community
Wahoo is taking a major step forward.
Over the past several years, we’ve heard a consistent message from our residents: our city is growing, our needs are evolving, and it’s time to invest in the future we want to build together.
That’s why the City of Wahoo is launching a comprehensive, community-driven effort to modernize and expand the public facilities that serve us all, from City Hall to emergency services to the recreation and wellness spaces that strengthen our quality of life.
Why Now?
This isn’t a quick decision. It’s the result of months and years of thoughtful planning, community input, and alignment of resources, grants and partnerships that created a rare window of opportunity to act. Many of Wahoo’s public buildings have not been updated since the 1950s-1980s. In some cases, like our Police Department, the community has continued to deliver high-quality service despite spaces that are outdated, inefficient, or no longer meet professional standards.
We’re building for the next generation. These aren’t “nice-to-haves,” they’re essential investments in safety, accessibility, economic vitality, and community wellbeing.
What’s Included
This initiative includes three major components, all connected by a single vision.
City Hall
A new city hall that reflects modern needs, ADA compliance, and Wahoo’s growing role as a regional hub. Current City Hall will temporarily relocate to 608 Linden Street (former Inspro). This move allows the current City Hall space to be repurposed while a permanent location for City Hall is considered that will enhance civic engagement, continuity, and transparency in local government. Find out more on the city hall fact sheet.
Public Safety Facilities
Our police facilities have not seen significant improvements since the 1950s, while our fire hall was rebuilt in the late 1990s to better serve the Fire Department. Since then, our public safety services have continued to expand and evolve to meet our community need, but the facilities have not kept pace. The new center will bring Police, Fire and EMS together under one roof - improving coordination, response times, and long-term sustainability of services. More can be found on the police facility fact sheet and the fire and rescue fact sheet.
Recreation and Wellness Center
A space for everyone. Building on Wahoo’s strong tradition of youth sports, this modern facility will expand access for people of all ages. From youth programming to healthy lifestyle programs, this center is designed to serve the whole community, not just athletes. Learn more on the civic center fact sheet.
Our Commitment
We know big projects come with big questions. That’s why we’re committed to:
-
Transparency at every step. No decisions behind closed doors.
-
Fiscal responsibility. Leveraging grants, USDA loans, and outside funding to minimize taxpayer burden.
-
Community-first planning, shaped by public feedback, open forums, and local ambassadors.
-
Preserving our identity. Honoring the past while investing in the future.
Stay Informed. Stay Involved.
We’ll continue to share updates, answer questions, and invite public input as plans evolve. Check back often for news on timelines, designs, costs, and how you can get involved.
Because this isn’t just about buildings. It’s about what kind of community we want to be today, tomorrow and for generations to come.
