Wahoo City Hall & Services

The Need for A Modern Facility
Wahoo City Hall no longer meets the needs of our growing community. Updates to the office space and roof were made in 2009, but functionality limitations remain.
Existing Conditions & Needs
There is a need for safety, accessibility, and health improvements throughout City Hall.
- Minimal barriers exist between public and staff spaces, posing a confidentiality and safety risk.
- Not all areas of City Hall are ADA-compliant. The public bathroom does not meet ADA standards and has not been updated since the 1980s.
- There are concerns about asbestos in City Hall. Potential renovations are hindered because of asbestos exposure risk.
- The basement does not meet modern storm shelter safety requirements.
The current City Hall has exceeded its functional capacity.
- City Hall has not been updated since the 2000s. Relocating will include more functionality for city services.
- The building lacks adequate staff workspace. There is limited space for staff to have private conversations.
- Partition walls have ceiling gaps, some covered with plexiglass, which create acoustic issues throughout the space.
City Hall cannot accommodate City Council and city staff meetings.
- City Hall lacks a dedicated meeting room with audio-visual capabilities and adequate space for the public.
- Council meetings have been held at the Wahoo Public Library since 2022, but that space is not well-suited for city council meetings.
- The public has to enter through the back door to attend public meetings.
- There is no space in City Hall for an all-staff meeting.
Essential Features of a New Facility
- Community Space – A welcoming and accessible space designed for public meetings and civic engagement.
- Consolidated City Spaces – City staff, Utilities staff, and their governing bodies working together in one facility to improve efficiency, coordination, and service delivery.
- A safe and functional working environment for city staff – A modern facility built for long-term use, designed to ensure safety, accessibility, and a productive workplace for decades to come.
What Will the Future Look Like?
To make way for a modern Public Safety Center, the City of Wahoo will temporarily relocate City Hall to 608 Linden Street (former Inspro). This move allows the current City Hall space to be repurposed while a permanent location for City Hall is considered.
