Proposed Wahoo Recreation & Wellness Center
Information on the proposed center, a link to a recent Q/A session, and more!
On Wednesday, October 7, 2026 the City of Wahoo hosted an information session on the plans for facility improvements for our Civic Center. In addition, City leaders shared information on the upcoming ballot issue for the City of Wahoo to extend an existing ½ cent sales tax.
For those who were not able to attend, the video of the information session is available on Saunders County Online YouTube channel: VIDEO of Oct 7 Presentation
During the presentation, staff shared information on the vision of City leadership on Building Wahoo's Future projects. This encompassing project includes Phase 1 which is providing professional and modern facilities for public safety departments by removing asbestos and remodeling City Hall located at 605 N Broadway. Phase 2 of this project plans to address the Civic Center, which will be celebrating 50 years of existence in 2028, and the need for updated and expanded facilities. In the current facility, user groups and programs often conflict in spaces; the facility is at capacity. Additionally, a new facility would bring ADA accessibility to all spaces and is planning to add features such as a dedicated walking lanes, family friendly aquatics features, 24/7 wellness access space, functional athletic/sports performance training areas, locker rooms/shower areas with more privacy and family changing spaces, and a dedicated fitness studio area. The facility is also being designed in a way that accommodates additional expansions of extra court spaces to the north, and a fieldhouse area to the south and east. Phase 3 of the project includes a City Hall facility, Senior Center, and Thrift Store, to be located on the block of the current Civic Center. The beloved gymnasium at the current Civic Center will be preserved and retained.
The presentation also covered information on the upcoming ballot question regarding the extension of an existing 1/2 cent sales tax. See the attached flyer (LINK) for more information.
Also presented were several renderings of the proposed facility. These can be seen in the attached gallery, or in person at the Wahoo Civic Center, 310 N Linden.
